Hospital network

The Granada hospital network consists of basically public hospitals run by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) and smaller privately owned centers. This network covers the needs of the city and its metropolitan area.

In total there are 2047 beds, of which 1694 belong to the SAS, 190 are established with San Juan de Dios, and 163 belong to private clinics.

The Regional Hospital Virgen de las Nieves has a capacity of 1075 beds, is one of the major hospitals in the Andalusian Public Health System (SSPA), positioning itself as a tertiary hospital, with the latest generation in the areas of diagnosis and treatment, and a workforce of more than 4600 professionals.

In recent years it has been pointed out by the incorporation of advanced technologies and the balance between available resources and activity.

The hospital’s mission is to participate in the training of professionals in different fields of knowledge in health sciences, with special attention to the training of specialists in the MIR program and participating in pregraduate training of different and related professions.

The Hospital Clinico Universitario San Cecilio de Especialidades has a capacity of 619 beds and was opened on October 12, 1952. Throughout the 1980s the hospital saw the integration of hospitals in the public health network as part of the National Health System. Since 1986 it has been managed by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS).

During this period, the Hospital San Cecilio increased resources, improved facilities and equipment, and has made an offer for the health of Granada and Andalusia to be of greater variety and quality, accompanied by educational and research activities related to its history and academic .

At present (2008) new hospital is under construction, which will be located in the Technological Park of Health Sciences, a modern center to replace the traditional facilities of the current hospital.

The Hospital of Saint Raphael has a capacity of 190 inpatient beds, and the day hospital has 45 beds, and the geriatric Alzheimer’s unit has 15. It is owned by the Order of the Hospitaller Brothers of St. John of God.

The health system, the exclusive competence of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, provides two types of care, primary education, which constitutes the first level of access to the system, and specialized.

Health centers and clinics are offering primary care, differing from each other at the level of care they provide. Specialized care, as a second level of care, is defined in the Act 2/ 1998 de Salud de Andalucia.

The Hospital of Saint Raphael focuses on comprehensive care for patients with medical and clinical pathology and geriatrics as inpatients. They also offer outpatient physical rehabilitation, the rehabilitation and education of children, and occupational therapy. The hospital activity is concerted with the Ministry of Health of Andalusia.

The Immaculate Conception Clinic S.A. has a capacity of 92 beds and is owned by the Company medical insurance ASISA, which is basically used by the hospital to meet his associates.

The Clinica Nuestra Senora de la Salud is a private hospital that has 71 rooms. It primarily serves to insurance companies.

Health Centers

The local Primary Care Network currently consists of eight health centers distributed throughout the various districts of the city and are as follows: Zaidin South; Zaidin Center-East; Realejo; Flowers; La Caleta; Gongora; Doctores.Cartuja; and Albaycin.
