At the top of the front is engraved the date of construction: 1539. This house consists of a hallway with stairs and windows from the Renaissance tradition, which is accessible to the central courtyard, with rooms open to the lower and upper galleries, and a beautiful rear garden.
The building underwent a radical transformation in order to place the museum there. In 1962 the house of the painter Rafael Latorre was purchased, which was near the house Castril, and the museum was expanded to include a space museum.
As director, Eguaras Angela Mendoza (1967-1988) made its present configuration, since the reform of 1970, ranging from prehistory to the end of the Middle Ages. In 1980 the Ethnology Section was created but has never developed, although there are reserves in superb collections of glass and ceramic Castril Fajalauza Granada.
