Granada Water

The drinking water treatment plant is located in ETAP Lancha del Genil, 4 km from Granada, at an altitude of 780 m. It consists of three different plants, constructed with the city’s increasing needs. The control of the three plants are fully automated. The laboratory has a new generation, adapted to the requirements of RD 140/2003.

The maximum treatment capacity is 2,450 L/s

The average volume treated was 104,313 m³/day

The average amount of water is 136 L per person per day

Emasagra has two wastewater treatment plants. The design responds to both plants’ classic line of water by activated sludge biological treatment and anaerobic digestion of sludge drying with a mechanical and gas line.

The Edar South purified a daily flow of 51,000 m3/day

The Edar West purified a daily flow of 22,412 m3. The treatment system in line with water and sludge is identical to the South Edar.

Sanitation facilities

The municipal cleaning, beautification, and public management of urban waste in the city of Granada was approved at the regular meeting held on 30 June 2006, at the Hon. City Council Chamber. That ordinance has been submitted by the Association Cotraex and Municipal Socialist Group. (published in the BOP 159, 22/8/06)

The collection and subsequent treatment of domestic waste, technically referred to as municipal solid waste (MSW) is the responsibility of the City Council and is managed through the company INAGRA, through appropriate administrative concession.

The company responsible for managing the supply of drinking water to the city of Granada and the subsequent treatment of wastewater is called Emasagra, which has operated in the city since 1982.

Emasagra manages the water cycle under the criteria of sustainable development, following the recommendations of the UN and the European Union.

The shareholding structure of the company is that 51% of shares belong to the City of Granada and 49% belongs to the company Aguagest South, which includes the group AGBAR and savings banks Unicaja and Caja Granada.

En, Granada, is a selective collection of refuse containers installed on public roads, where deposited glass, paper, plastic, and organic waste are deposited in separate containers. There are several points in the city to put furniture, appliances, and other belongings.

Each person produces an average of 500 kilos of waste a year. Fees for garbage collection are charged—a monthly flat rate between 6.1 and 9.2 Euros, related to the tax category of the street—and the consumption of water is taken into the homes.

The firm of Public Building and Contratas (FCC) is the dealership service site in Granada, which holds a contract with the Diputacion de Granada RESUR through the company, which operates two plants—recovery and composting of wastes in Alhedin and Velez-Benaudlla.

INAGRA was founded in 1985 and is a society that seeks the operation of the concession of municipal street cleaning, collection and transportation of waste (MSW) at landfills RESUR, maintenance, and replacement of containers and bins.
